How to Wash a Throw Pillow
Throw cushions include a cozy element to chairs, sofas and beds, but they can also become dirt magnets on heavily utilized furniture. Most quality throw pillows have a cushion insert, made from foam or a full inner instance, inside a decorative cover. The add is nearly always completely washable, however, the cover might need only place cleaning so that decorative elements are not damaged. The washing method used depends on whether the cushion is full of polyester or natural fibers, or whether it’s made from foam.
Fiber-Filled Pillows
Remove the cushion from the instance, if possible and if the instance is not machine washable.
Fill the washing machine with warm water for fiber-filled throw pillows. Dissolve a mild soap in the water, using the recommended amount on the tag.
Submerge the cushion and the washable covering at the water. Wash on the gentle cycle for eight minutes.
Go the machine dial to the rinse cycle. Run the cushion through the warm water rinse cycle three times to ensure all detergent residue is eliminated.
Machine-dry the throw pillow on the low-heat gentle cycle for as much as three hours, or until the filling is totally dry. Remove the cushion from the dryer and fluff it every 30 minutes throughout the dry cycle so the filling does not clump. Air-dry the cushion cover unless the label specifies that it is safe to tumble-dry.
Foam Pillows
Remove the insert from the covering. Wash the covering individually following the machine washing or place washing directions.
Fill the sink with warm water along with the light detergent. Submerge the foam insert from the water and compress it so the water functions into the cushion.
Drain the sink and then fill it with clear water. Submerge the pillow and squeeze it to rinse the detergent from the foam. Change the water at least twice and continue to squeeze until all of the soap is eliminated.
Squeeze the foam add between two towels to remove most of the water. Air-dry the cushion flat for two to three days, or until no moisture remains. Foam pillows can combust in a dryer so can only be air-dried.
Spot Cleaning
Dissolve 1 tbsp mild laundry detergent at a bowl of warm water.
Moisten a rag from the detergent solution. Blot the soiled sections of this throw pillow case with the damp cloth and lift the dirt or stain from the cloth.
Rinse the rag with clear water and then wring it out. Blot the cushion using the clear water to remove all detergent residue.
Air-dry the cushion case flat or on a hanging line until it’s completely dry. Place the throw pillow insert back inside the instance.
