Projects for Garden Lattices & Fences
Wood lattice is a flexible substance capable of performing many functions from the garden. It can be purely ornamental or it can function as a plant support or privacy screen. Fences, screens, trellises and arbors are structures which can take advantage of the attractive performance of lattice and every one of these structures are available building jobs for the resourceful gardener.
Trellises
Wood lattice can be used as a simple trellis or screen fence which stands on its own from the backyard. This kind of lattice fence functions as a visual accent for neighboring plantings and in addition, it can function as a help for larger or plants that are growing. The lattice itself will offer a moderate level of shade and solitude, and as the season progresses and foliage on the trellis fills, the structure will function more effectively as a privacy screen. A simple trellis screen could be produced with a lattice panel enclosed in a frame of 1-by-4-inch timber and attached to vertical posts which are securely anchored in the ground.
Arbors
Arbor designs that integrate lattice panels also provide support for climbing plants with the further benefit of allowing plants to climb over the top of the arbor, which aids the arbor to set a space inside the garden. Once an arbor frames an opening in a fence, the structure marks the point of transition via the fence and highlights the distinction between the spaces on each side of the fence. A rustic arbor can be constructed with two trellises combined by arching branches over the top. A more formal arbor project employs prefabricated arch members to link the trellises, with flat slats extending across the space between the arches to provide support for plants.
Lattice Fences
When used as a fence panel, lattice strikes a balance between providing privacy and allowing the passage of light and air through the fence. Lattice panels assembled into frames produced from one-by-four timber are attractive in their own right, and they can also function as a complementary backdrop for plantings. Like free-standing trellises, lattice fences can be the support for climbing plants, also, and their worth for a privacy fence rises as the foliage fills in. A fundamental lattice fence project entails assembling the lattice panels and attaching them involving vertical fence posts. Purchasing prefabricated lattice panels makes the project even easier.
Fence Tops
When privacy is much more of a concern along with the average quantity of privacy afforded by lattice is not sufficient, a good privacy fence could be topped with a lattice panel. In this instance, the lattice adds a decorative element into the fence in the exact same time that it enables some light throughout the good fence. Including a little pergola above the lattice panel provides a space for trailing plants as well as some colour. The fence-top panels can be made in the exact same manner as lattice fence panels, with lattice included in a 1-by-4-inch wood frame and attached between posts that extend above the top of the privacy fence.
