The Way to Repair Cat Scratches on Wallpaper
Your feline friend may be cute and cuddly, but do not let that fool you; her claws may do severe damage in your home. If your kitty employed your background as a scratching post, you do not need to tear out it to fix the rip. Use matching scraps of background to create a patch to replace the torn place. As soon as you’ve applied the patch, no one will understand just how naughty your cat has been.
Find a little bit of background that matches the torn wallpaper. If you do not have any available, a hardware or home improvement store might have matching pieces available. Alternatively, have a bit from a concealed place in your home, such as the inside wall of a closet.
Cut the background piece so that it’s large enough to completely cover the damaged region.
Moisten a clean sponge with lukewarm water, then stick the sponge over the broken portion of the existing wallpaper with a strip of masking tape. Leave the sponge in place for 5 minutes, then remove it. This moistens the background, making it simpler to remove the broken piece.
Tape the background scrap over the damaged region. The pattern onto the scrap should overlap and fit the pattern on the background below it.
Use a trim knife to cut a patch that matches the ruined region just. Press down hard so you simply cut through the newspaper scrap and also the damaged wallpaper under it. Completely encircle the damaged region with the cut.
Lift the patch that you cut and place it aside. Use your knife to lift away the damaged background. If any paper bits remain, wipe them off with a hot, damp sponge. Remove the background scrap and also the tape to create a clean place to your patch.
Soak the patch in warm water for 30 minutes when it’s pre-pasted. Fold it loosely above, paste to paste, then let it set for 5 minutes. If the scrap is not pre-pasted, smooth a thin layer of wallpaper paste over the back, then fold it in exactly the same manner. Fold the scrap over to prevent the paste from drying out.
Unfold the patch, then smooth it down on the damaged region. Press down hard across the edges to keep the patch from lifting. Wipe any excess paste with a damp sponge.
